What parents say ...

To register for the Open Afternoon on Friday 8th October from 3.30pm to 5.00pm, please fill in the form below.

Childhood is a precious time that we value highly at our school. We see our learning environment as an antidote to the digital distractions and peer pressures that can mean children have to grow up too fast.

Pupils have 30 acres of woodland and open grounds as their playground to explore and 'be children'. They're immersed year-round in nature and fresh air through play, forest school learning and healthy physical sports activities.

Small class sizes (15 pupils max) and individual teacher attention are key to empowering pupils to reach their full academic potential.

But school, we think, should also be about so much more than exams and grades. Learning the social skills and self-confidence your child will need to excel in his or her life ahead is just as important.

Your child’s personality is what will make him or her stand out from the crowd as an adult.

So we will encourage your child as an individual – with a happy childhood they’ll always cherish through play, friendships and exciting extra-curricular opportunities to spark future passions.

Your choice of school will play a big part in informing your son or daughter's view of the world and in influencing their life possibilities. To get a sense of our ethos, you're very welcome at our next Open Afternoon.

"Sompting Abbotts is somewhere children can really be children. I love that they still do the old-fashioned stuff like conker competitions, play hide-and-seek in the woods and can climb trees." – PARENT OF TWINS, YEAR 4

Watch the video (60 seconds) to see why Sompting Abbotts has been selected as a finalist for the Independent Schools of the Year 2021 Green Award and to view the outdoor learning experience.

Next steps ...

  • Many pupils leave us at the end of their Year 8 having achieved public school scholarships to leading independents. These include Lancing, Brighton and Hurst Colleges, Roedean, Sherborne, Winchester and Brighton Girls' School.
  • Others leave for their state secondary school well-prepared for their GCSEs ahead.
  • All our pupils take the Common Entrance Exam in Year 8.
  • The standard of work for Common Entrance in most subjects is in advance of a student’s academic age.
  • These are of a standard that give children a head-start for their GCSEs at their chosen next school, whether it's a state secondary or an independent.
