Hello Mrs Tritton, tell us about your role at Sompting Abbotts

I'm Head of Geography and joined the school in September 2017.

Tell us about your career experience?

I've been teaching for 40 years internationally and in the UK. Schools I've taught at include Steyning Grammar, Our Lady of Sion, Lancing College and at St Denys High School in Muree, Pakistan, as a missionary teacher. Geography is my big passion, as is working with young people.

What you enjoy most about teaching at Sompting Abbotts?

A lot but especially the polite and well-behaved students, the friendly staff, the small classes, the strong support system, the beautiful outdoors environment and the school's Christian ethos.

What do you most love about geography as a subject?

I'm passionate about the subject as I see the beauty of the Earth but understand the underlying physical processes that created it. I'm a geomorphologist, so my interest lies in physical geography. Geography is alive!

"A really good education at Sompting Abbotts means a child will learn ..."

to identify their own strengths and potential, and how to develop them. They will learn resilience and well being, and how to care for others. They will learn respect and good manners. They will know happiness and flourish in their learning experience. They will grow into confident young people.

Tell us something we don't know about you!

I'm a true geographer who enjoys travel. I've travelled globally and been part of many field trips all over the world, to Iceland, Amsterdam, New York and to Peru – the latter as part of the World Challenge Expedition. I'm a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and regularly attend lectures.

As a teacher at Sompting Abbotts, I especially value the polite and well-behaved students, the friendly staff, the small classes, the strong support system, the beautiful outdoors environment and the school’s Christian ethos.
